Catherine Radu 1923-2013

HOWLAND - Catherine Radu, 89, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland.

Catherine was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Warren, the daughter of Constantine and Veronica Barson.

She was a January 1941 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Catherine retired in 1989 from Packard Electric in the production control department as a secretary after 30 years.

She previously worked at Taylor Winfield and Cleveland Tank Plant.

Catherine was a member Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church, Sachs Music Club and St. Demetrios Philoptochos Society. She taught piano and enjoyed ceramics, traveling and playing cards, especially bridge.

She is survived by her husband, John Radu Sr., whom she married Sept. 26, 1948; two sons, John (JoAnne) Radu Jr. of Warren and George (Marilyn) Radu of Novelty; and three grandchildren, Juliana Radu, Chris and Constantine Kiriakou.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, John Thomas Radu; sister, Sophie Katerakis; and two brothers, William and George Barson.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a Parastas service at 6 p.m. at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. James Barkett officiating.

Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church Society, 1836 North Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483.
